2- DAY Workshop
ISO 14001 EMS INTERNAL AUDITING

This highly interactive course takes participants through all stages of an internal audit, using a realistic case study to emphasize the business value to be gained from conducting effective audits. Through workshops, discussions, and role-plays, participants will prepare for, conduct, and report on an EMS audit against the ISO 14001 standard. These workshops will help course attendees learn to accurately interpret and audit against the ISO 14001 requirements. Attendees will also learn how to develop an effective audit program, establish or enhance an existing internal l audit system, and use internal audits for the greatest business benefit.

ISO 14000 is a series of international standards that deals with environmental issues. An Environmental Management System, according to ISO 14001, is the part of an organization's overall management system pertaining to the development, implementation, achievement, review, and maintenance of the organization's environmental policy. Environmental issues are at the forefront of corporate issues today. Having a documented environmental management system is important for ensuring that your policies are effectively understood and implemented, and for ensuring that your environmental management system is an integral part of your overall management system.

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the responsibilities of an internal auditor and describe the role of internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of management systems, in accordance with ISO 19011.

  • Explain the purpose and structure of ISO 14001, and explain the principles, process and selected techniques used for the assignment and management of environmental aspects and impacts, including the significance of these for EMS auditors.

  • Plan and prepare for an internal audit • gather audit evidence through observation, interview and sampling of documents and records.

  • Write factual audit reports that help to improve the effectiveness of the management system.

  • Suggest ways in which the effectiveness of corrective action might be verified.
